Radagast is a character in J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth legendarium, first appearing in *The Hobbit*. He is one of the five Wizards (Istari) sent to Middle-earth to aid in the fight against Sauron.
Known as Radagast the Brown, he differs from the other Wizards, like Gandalf and Saruman, in his deep affinity for nature and animals. He resides at Rhosgobel, near the borders of Mirkwood, and spends his time among the beasts and birds of the forest. His knowledge of these creatures is vast, and he uses them as spies and messengers.
In the *The Hobbit* movies, Radagast is portrayed as eccentric and somewhat scatterbrained, but ultimately a kind and well-meaning figure who is vital in alerting the White Council to the growing threat of the Necromancer (Sauron).
